As the UK’s largest celebration of online safety, Safer Internet Day highlights key digital issues that young people encounter in their online lives. This year, in collaboration with young people across the country, the spotlight will be on online scams—how to recognize them, protect against them, and access the right support.

The day will explore the true scale of online scams, giving young people a platform to share their experiences and ideas for tackling the problem. It will also build on ongoing efforts to raise awareness around issues like online financial sextortion while looking ahead to the evolving landscape of digital fraud.
Key questions to be addressed include:
- How will advancements in technology, such as generative AI, shape the tactics of scammers?
- What role should governments and the tech industry play in combating online fraud?
- What changes do young people want to see to better protect themselves in the future?

What is Safety Internet Day
Safer Internet Day has grown into a key event in the online safety calendar. Originally launched in 2004 as part of the EU SafeBorders project and later adopted by the Insafe network in 2005, it has expanded far beyond its initial reach. Today, it is celebrated in around 170 countries worldwide.
